Startup Weekend 2010 – Tel Aviv-Jaffa

by

Startup Weekend returns to the region after the successful Startup Weekend Israel 2009. In the coming incarnation the Startup Weekend team – Amir Harel and Eddy Resnick – are working in conjunction with The Peres Center for Peace to broaden the population and contribution of the Startup Weekend platform to the wider region.
The previous Startup Weekend (which here is run from Wednesday afternoon to Friday evening) had around 50 concepts pitched, saw 13 teams develop the idea into a product and at least 2 companies continue their teamwork afterwards.

INTRODUCTION

Startup Weekend has been introduced to over 15,000 entrepreneurs in more than 100 cities around the world. Founded in June 2007, Startup Weekend provides a platform to pitch an idea, build the concept and present it to the audience in around 50 hours. At least 500 companies have been created over the lifetime of the worldwide event raising more than $2M in financing.

This Startup Weekend will be held in The Peres Center for Peace’s facility. The event is planned to be significantly larger with 160 attendees and will offer more services than before. The Center will work with the management team in bringing Israeli & Arab entrepreneurs and “startupists” from the ICT community in Israel as well as the Palestinian Authority.

The Peres Center for Peace’s mission is to build an infrastructure of peace and reconciliation by and for the people of the Middle East that promotes socio-economic development, while advancing cooperation and mutual understanding. This mission coincides with the charter of Startup Weekend in creating ventures that have no borders.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Startup Weekend attendees are made up from the width and breadth of the startup and entrepreneurial community – from mobile and server developers to technical writers and lawyers, and even investors – or people like you. The audience consists of individuals who have a burning idea and are looking to put it into code, as well as those who are looking for team members to join their project and would like to “test the waters”.

WHAT DO ATTENDEES GET

Besides the unique networking experience, Startup Weekend provides a platform for team building, learning, and life changes for its attendees and their communities. Don’t forget that there will be 6-7 meals and drinks provided. There is a reason that most attendees come back for every event – it’s just plain fun and provides amazing opportunities you can’t get anywhere else. Sometimes a company emerges, sometimes one doesn’t. Some companies go on to produce revenue or get seed funding, but every time people leave with more experience, insight, knowledge, friends, and resources than they came with.

WHEN, WHERE & HOW?

The event will be on the 14-16 of July, and although we are called Startup Weekend, like the previous event, we will keep it Kosher and have it on a Wed-Fri.

The event will be held in The Peres Center for Peace’s facility, 132 Kedem Street, Jaffa. Other then being an amazing building it’s right on the the Jaffa beach!

Ticket sales will start on Sunday 6/6/2010 and discount codes will be issued for early-bird registrations
