12. World Tour Guide – Mobile app for GPS assisted audio tourguides. Crowdsource voice recordings of tours.

13. The Beach – Crowdsourced augmented reality app to help collect location data

15. Take Me – Meta info from public transportation services

16. Doctor Web – The new village doctor.  International online medical services. Local nurses record medical treatment for on-duty doctors to diagnose remotely.

What is the official language of the event?

Since this event is  global the official language will be English. However, within each team you can decide whatever language you feel comfortable with; it could be Hebrew, Arabic or even ancient Gaelic.

Can I please know the event’s agenda?

No! The agenda is Top Secret and will only be made available a week after the event in 512 bit encoding.

What is the event’s schedule?

Oh the schedule … now that’s a different story.

Wednesday, 14 July
16:00    Registration and networking
17:00    Opening remarks and presentations from IBM, PayPal, Google and Amit, Pollak, Matalon & Co.
18:30    Startup Idea Pitches begin – everyone will get 1½ minutes to describe their idea in front of the rest of the audience without using any technical tools. You’ll have 90 seconds to convince potential team members so be focused and to the point
19:30    Dinner and “fumbling” – this is where you get the chance to talk about what is behind their ideas and discover if the idea is interesting, what/who the need and if you would want to join their team.
20:15    Team creation – after voting takes place you will divide into working teams around the chosen idea
21:00    Team building – this is when you start to quickly brainstorm with your new team about the idea and dividing up into subteams.
Advice center: this is not the stage to discuss IPO or percentage ownership.
23:30    Good night – lights out at the Peres Center and home you go.
Advice center: just because we’ve closed doesn’t mean that you have to. You can take yourselves to a local establishment and continue working. “If you drink don’t drive or write code.”

Thursday, 15 July
9:00    Reassemble and breakfast
9:30    Back to work – developers are coding, designers are designing, marketeers and business people are creating presentations, and the social media people are creating internet “buzz”. The Startup Weekend team will prowl the teams to make sure that all is well and to help where we can.
Business and technical support – throughout the event lawyers from Amit, Pollak, Matalon & Co. will be available for legal advice. There will also be technical advice available from IBM, Google and Paypal.
11:45    “Fundraising 101”  – Daniel Cohen from Gemini will unveil all the secrets and experiences about how to raise funds from venture capitalists
12:15    Lunch and an opportunity to dive into the Mediterranean
13:15    Back to work
18:30    Dinner
19:00    Back to work again
23:30    Close up shop for the night (see the advice from Wednesday)

Friday, 16 July
9:00    Reassemble and breakfast
9:30    Continue working on the startup idea – this is your last day and therefore we recommend you start to consider who will present, what will be presented and how you will present.
Advice corner: This element is probably the most important in the event. If you have been able to create some working or demo then make sure it gets  presented. Make sure you get your point across – you’ll have 6 minutes!
12:30    Light lunch
13:00    Back to work and finalising code, presentations, whatever
15:00    Presentation time – each team will have 6 minutes to present their project to the judges and the rest of the Startup Weekend crowd
17:00    Winner announcement and parting words
17:30    Go back to families a little happier

What should bring to the event?

•    notebook/netbook/laptop and maybe bring your own keyboard and mouse
•    business cards
•    bathing suit and towel if you want to dip into the Mediterranean (we are literally right on the beach)
•    your best humour – a must!

What will we get at the event?

•    the opportunity to meet the people with whom you will work on your next big project

If I pitched an idea do I still own the rights?

Just like in the world of open source world where people donate to the community, your pitch is just the same – the moment you’ve declared the idea publicly then it is in the public domain. Startup Weekend believes that creating a startup is not an issue of the idea but in the creation of the team that brings that concept to fruition. Test your abilities to convince others of your idea’s worth and join your team. Your bound to learn a lot about yourselves and about your idea. If you think that you have the next Facebook or Google, then you may want to attend Startup Weekend to work on other people’s ideas and take the opportunity to find the right people to join you in your next great venture.

What happens to the teams after the event is over?

Startup Weekend is a platform to enable the initial development of these new ideas and has no position after the event is over. Whatever you decide as a team – or individuals – is up to you. The average around the world is usually one or two teams continue to develop their concept after the event.

How do you effectively present an idea in 90 seconds?

It takes some skill to pitch an idea in 90 seconds. Startup Weekend suggests the following format: introduce yourself; the name of the idea; a quick description of what this idea is about; what you need (developers, iPhone programmers, graphic designers, etc.); if there is time left over then why this idea is important to you  – a personal story perhaps.
Advice Corner: Since you need to pitch in English and you only have 90 seconds, maybe it would be a good idea if you come prepared and practice a bit at home. You can take the neighbors dog and pitch him your idea – howls to the moon=you needs some more work, wagging tail=your on to something!
